Kate started making ceramic bowls during the first few months after her son Hank was born. Every Monday, Kate & Hank would head over to her mom’s house (hi, Grandma Sherry) and work on projects for the day. One of these projects happened to be making a pile of hand-built plates, bowls, and pins utilizing her mom’s small kiln that lives in her garage. Kate mostly illustrates, but the process of learning about ceramics was a fun distraction for her as she also learned how to be a mom by hanging out with her mom.
These pieces are made out of stoneware and are bumpy and clunky, just like her drawings.
