Malloreddus, also  known internationally as Sardinian gnocchi is a semolina and water dumpling which had been made on the island for centuries. It is the pasta that is featured at family celebrations and holidays in Sardegna. 

a rolled pasta dumpling which is made in Sardinian homes across the island. Traditionally served in meat sauces or red sauces, but extremely versatile as a pasta dumpling. The name is dialect for baby calf as the farming families that created it felt that the dumplings shape reminded them of new born baby calfs.
